Mangroves & Melaleucas

Often found together at the edge of rivers, creeks, and lakes in NSW, mangroves and melaleucas both play a vital role in protecting our environment through carbon sequestering, stabilising soil, filtering water, and providing habitat.

Mangroves are perfectly adapted to high-salinity and oxygen-depleted soils. They can also tolerate high temperatures and extreme tides. According to earthobservatory.nasa.gov, Australia has the third largest area of mangroves in the world, with over 40 species lining almost 20% of our coastline estuaries.

I acknowledge the Traditional Owners of Garigal, Guringai, Dharug and Darkinjung Country, the land where I work, live and play. I acknowledge all Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander Traditional Custodians of Country and recognise their continuing connection to land, sea, culture and community.

I pay my respects to Elders past and present.

This beautiful land that I love and protect was, and always will be Aboriginal Land.
